6. Poplar Stretch
A half kilometre stretch of canal minus the pedestrian, cyclist and boat traffic! It has 34 pegs with 13 meters between each peg giving anglers plenty of space and water to go at. The Poplar Stretch used to be connected to the old Ashby cut so the depths are similar to canals which are still in service with shallow margins (3-4ft) and a deep “track” (4 ½ - 6ft). Stocked heavily with Bream and Roach with plenty of other species to catch too; Crucians, Tench, Rudd, and Perch.
